Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Altanticus, a large collections of drawings and writings about flying machines, weapons, mathematics and botany is feared to be infiltrated by mold. The Central Institute for Conservation and Restoration of Book Heritage carried out the battery of test to investigate about the suspected mold.
Luckily studies on the relic shows that the stains seen was in fact caused by mercury salts as a disinfectant to protect the document from such a "biological and microbiological onslaughts.
